Ako: What does ako mean to me?
Ako to me stands for teachers and learners all learning together and knowing your learner and their whanau. Relationships are key!
I think it is important with the current digital world that
Dorothy used the metaphor of two train tracks one being digital learning and one being pedagogy for teaching and learning and how they have to come together. This was a really powerful metaphor and how important it is to move into digital learning for our tamariki.
"We are all life long learners"
My school vision is Ma Mahi Te Kai: To Work is to Prosper. We believe that teachers, students and whanau work together to help our tamariki to grow and learn. Every child should learn in an authentic context that is important to them.
Deep Dive-Google Keep:
Kerri showed us how to use Google Keep, this is an extension that I have never used before but can see the benefits of using it as it keeps your notes organised and is easy to access on any device.
I added the Google Keep extension and this can be used in the class to add bookmarks with a note about what you have read. Super fast and easy!
I also learnt how to pin notes, colour, add location, add image.
Chalk N Talk-gmail:
Venessa showed us some quick tips for managing our gmail. One that I really liked was changing the background so it is easier to differentiate between work and personal gmails and to stop that confusion. I also found useful adding the 'starred first' button which brings my most important emails to the top. Such a quick nifty trick that will save time scrolling for those important emails.
Chalk N Talk-Calendar:
Venessa showed us how to colour code our calendars and add events. After Covid-19 I know myself that I have used the calendar more to create Google Hangouts. I myself don't use this tool very often as I don't have a lot of outside school responsibilities.
Deep Dive:
Kerri showed us how to clean up our bookmarks tab and manage this a lot better. Instead of having multiple tabs on my bookmarks bar I now have a resource bookmark tab and a school tab. From last week I have also now added things like Facebook, Netflix and other websites only using their icon that I know. This is a lot more organised and takes up less space on my bookmarks tab.
Create:
Our last part of the day we got into small groups to set up a Google Meet and practise recording and uploading our video onto our blog. After Covid-19 this is one thing that I have got the hang of and learnt over the lockdown through trial, error and lots of Youtube help videos.Overall thoughts from today:
Another great session learning and connecting with others in the Far North. Today's session which was focused on workflow had lots of handy tips and tricks to make my life easier and more organised in my teaching. Definitely going to recommend other workmates to use bookmarks manager to tidy up their bookmarks for easy accessibility.
